Turbo Props
Turbo props are a fixed wing type aircraft that are used for shorter distances and landing at certain airports where you may have trouble bring in a jet aircraft. They are also usually less expensive than a jet aircraft by the hour. They travel about 300 miles per hour depending on the type and can be fully medically equipped.
Light Jets
Light Jets which consist of the Lear 35,36 or 45 and the Gulfstream 100 and 150 are the most commonly used aircraft in the Air Ambulance industry. Very simple, they are very cost effective per nautical mile which is what your rate is based on. This type of aircraft generally holds a two pilot crew, a two person medical staff, the patient and one companion traveler. This aircraft generally travels 1500 nautical miles before needing a fuel stop
Medium Sized Jets
Medium Size Jets which consist of the Hawker 800 series and some Citation aircraft can usually accept two traveling companions. It can travel closer to 2000 nautical miles without a fuel stop and still be close in price to the nautical mile rate of a light jet.
Heavy Sized Jets
Heavy Sized Jets usually consist of the Challenger type aircraft and the Large Gulfstream type. These are expensive aircraft to transport in. They cost just about twice the rate per hour than the light jet type aircraft. They have the ability to cross oceans in certain areas that lights and mids can not. They can hold up to three travelers and fly 3200 nautical miles if not more without a fuel stop.
